Bisnis.com, JAKARTA — Indonesia’s leading coal producers are grappling with shrinking profitability, as the industry collectively reports steep annual declines in net profits during the third quarter of 2025.

Data compiled by Bisnis on Monday (3/11/2025) show that five publicly listed coal mining companies that have submitted their financial results for the January–September 2025 period recorded year-on-year drops in profit.

Bisnis.com, JAKARTA — The government’s push for creating added value for coal is seemingly back on track following stalled efforts due to Air Products and Chemicals Inc. withdrawing from Indonesia’s coal gasification project. There are now two options for partnership going forward: China or Europe.

The national task force for downstreaming and energy security has completed the concept and pre-feasibility study for the coal gasification project to produce dimethyl ether (DME), the results of which submitted to sovereign wealth fund Danantara Indonesia.
